The ballet program at Allegra has been carefully designed to support the development of strength, flexibility and artistry. Utilizing the Vaganova and Cecchetti methods of classical ballet, the directors have created their own syllabus to guide students securely and logically through the stages of development. Ballet is the fundamental technique essential for all types of dance training. Our goal at Allegra is to teach a standard of ballet excellence appropriate for both the recreational and pre-professional student. Placement: Students will be placed in a level appropriate for both their age and level of physical and/or technical development. Our instructors are trained professionals providing age appropriate dance training for all young artists. Placement within a level is subject to change solely at the discretion of the ballet director. The Allegra Dance faculty follows a sequential, progressive syllabus with learning goals appropriate for each age and level. Leveled Classes: The Faculty takes great care in choosing the correct level class for each student. Each student is an individual and may have different levels of experience, ability, and skill. In maintaining our high standards for a quality dance education, it is therefore sometimes impossible to keep the same students together in a class year after year, or to base placement solely on age or on prior training. The most important thing is that the student is set up for a successful ballet experience by being appropriately challenged and nurtured. A happy, comfortable learning environment is sure to yield progress. Pointe Training: Students ages 12 and up are evaluated on a regular basis to determine their readiness for pointe class, but neither age nor placement level is a guarantee of being invited to go on pointe. Other variables that affect this decision are experience, body alignment, and strength in ankles and back. To be considered for pointe, students must have been taking ballet for at least 3 years, at a minimum of 2 classes per week for the past 2 years. Attendance: All students are expected to arrive on time for class, fully dressed and prepared. Class Attire: Ladies Leotards: Style Balera MT7491 Level I: Pink Level II: Royal Blue Ladies Leotards: Style Balera MT2214 Level III: Eggplant Level IV: Olive Level V: Navy Blue Level VI, VII and VIII: Black Skirts: Levels IV and above may wear matching ballet skirts. Ladies Tights: Pink tights (convertible for pointe class). Hair: Hair is to be worn in a medium bun in all ballet classes. Shoes: Pink ballet shoes with elastic. Gentlemen: Fitted white shirt with black tights or pants. Black ballet shoes. Appropriate attire projects an image of professionalism, self-respect and complements the classical nature of ballet. The dress code at is to be strictly observed at all times. |
